Baby Must Haves: What I keep in my Baby Caddy!
What I keep in my Baby Caddy!
Not sure about anyone else but having a two-story house can be rough when you need something upstairs. Especially with a baby in the mix. I mean I don't want to run up the stairs to the nursery everytime I need something for my baby. That's why I set up a Baby Caddy to have down stairs with all the essentials for my little one. Our portable pick-up caddy was purchased at Babies R' Us, but I see these 'caddy' style organizers at Ross and TJ Maxx all the time! Ours usually sits on our couch in the 'kid' living room or on the cabinet under the TV.
Here are the must have essentials that I keep in my baby caddy:
1. Diapers (we use Costco brand)
*Costco diapers are very similar to Huggies IMO. We like them because they have the Wet Indicator Line, they are absorbent, soft for sensitive skin, and we can buy them in bulk.
2. Wipes (Costco or Water Wipes are our favorite)
*Costco wipes are a sturdy, x-large size wipe and I love that they come in packages that keep the wipes fresh and moist. Also, we can buy in bulk! Bonus: the Costco box of wipes usually comes with 2 travel size packages for on the go, which is great for the diaper bag. The wipes are free of chlorine, alcohol, dyes, parabens, and phthalates. They are also Hypoallergenic, and have Aloe and Chamomile infused within.
*The Water Wipes are what we used for the newborn stage for my baby, just in case he had a sensitivity. We love them both. Water wipes can get a bit expensive, and Costco is more convenient for our family.
3. Rash cream (Desitin or Boudreaux's Butt Paste ) both do the job.
4. Thermometer
*We keep two in our caddy a(regular)oral/auxiliary/rectum one with the sanitary sheaths AND a Forehead Thermometer. The forehead one is nice because you can easily take the temperature while baby is sleeping.
5. Hand sanitizer
5. Hand sanitizer
*For after diaper changes and for visitors before they touch baby. We use the Babyganics alcohol free foaming hand sanitizer.
Any hand sanitizer will do.
6. Nail clippers
6. Nail clippers
*We have the baby nail dremel. IT IS A MUST HAVE. There are a few different kinds. We have the JACKiSS Pro Baby Nail File Electric, Baby Nail Trimmer and Nail Clippers with Light and 10 Grinding Heads. We love it because it's safe, gentle, and easy! I'm just too scared to cut my baby with regular clippers.
Rhoost Deluxe Baby Nail File . These are a small and fine grit which is gentle on newborn nails.
7. Nose sucker
7. Nose sucker
*Bulb or FridaBaby NoseFrida. Both get the job done. the nose Bulb is a bit easier to use.
8. Green mouth sucker
8. Green mouth sucker
*WE HAD ONE IN EVERY ROOM OF THE HOUSE. I was so scared my baby was going to choke or gag on spit-up or milk. We ordered a few from Amazon because the hospital only gave us one mouth bulb sucker. We had one in the caddy, diaper bag, nursery, our room, everywhere. Yes I'm a crazy FTM.
9. Boogie Wipes
9. Boogie Wipes
*At first I thought these Boogie Wipes were stupid when I saw them in the store...then I bought them when my son had his first cold, and they are great! They have saline in them which is gentle and easy on the nose and it's a small wipe for their little noses. No raw red nose for my baby!
10. Head to toe wipes by Johnson and Johnson
10. Head to toe wipes by Johnson and Johnson
*These are great to wipe the baby off in the morning before getting dressed for the day, and also on non-bath nights. We only do bath night every other night because my son gets dry patches easily. These head to toe Johnson and Johnson wipes are huge! They can easily wipe down a baby head to toe with one wipe. Obviously start with the head.
11. Lotion
*We just use Aveeno Baby or Johnson and Johnson.
12. Sunscreen
12. Sunscreen
*Think Baby or Blue Lizard. My son has a birthmark on his cheek called a(Port Wine Stain) and he gets laser treatment on it every 8 weeks. We keep sunscreen on him when we go outside, especially after a laser treatment. Plus it's good to wear sunscreen every time you go out. Bonus: The Blue Lizard cap turns blue when the UVA rays are hitting it. Kinda cool!
13. Diaper changing mat by IKEA
*This is inexpensive, light weight, thin, water proof changing mat from IKEA. If pee or poo get on it, it won't soak through to your carpet, sofa, or bed. It can be folded up small for your diaper bag or baby caddy. We keep one in both. It washes in the washing machine well too! We all know we don't usually go to the nursery where the changing table is for every diaper change, so this is a great and clean changing mat to use instead.
14. Hand and face wipes by Johnson and Johnson.
* These are nice to have sometimes if you just wan't to use a small, gentle wipe on baby's face and hands for a quick clean up.
What I keep in our wheel around caddy: IKEA
Our big wheel around caddy (utility cart) can be taken around downstairs from room to room! It's from IKEA. It has 3 shelves that can be accessed easily. They have a few different colors to choose from as well. We chose the Cream/White one. I really wanted the dark grey one, but they were all out. Wahh. Plus, our small portable diaper caddy fits nicely on top of the roller caddy too!
A list of items that we keep in our roll around caddy:
- Bibs
- Hand and face wipes
- Extra diapers
- Extra wipes
- A few changes of clothes/pj's
- Burp cloths
- Blankets
- Hats/mittens/socks
- Breastfeeding items
- Baby shoes/sandals
- Extra portable changing pad/diaper stations. (These can be taken by my husband or babysitter if they didn't want to take the while diaper bag.)
- Extra stroller parts like the adapters for the stroller to use the infant cat seat or the regular seat base. Was nice to have it on hand with easy access incase we wanted to change it out quickly.
- Other items that we keep close by, but in the baby cabinet in the kitchen are things like: Infant Tylenol, Motrin, saline nose spray, medicine syringes, gripe water, Vitamin D-drops, teething items, etc.
*Side notes: The portable pick-up caddy was also nice to take upstairs in our room too. At night we had it in there when our son was sleeping in our room. No, I didn't walk into his nursery every time he needed a diaper or pj change. HA!
Hope this was somewhat helpful for some! I have linked all that I mentioned in the above list via hyperlink. Let me know if you have any questions and please comment and let me know what YOUR favorite items are to keep in your baby's caddy! I love me some baby products!
Xoxo, Nikie
